Proving Grounds

After much work, thought and perspective, Enviros has made the difficult decision to postpone the 2016 version of Proving Grounds.

With the current economic climate and the Ft. Mac Murray crisis still underway, it is important to be mindful & respectful of the needs of others as well as our own.  We are sad to have to make this decision but feel it is the right one in the current circumstances.

Please know that this is a postponement only, we will be working hard to rejuvenate Proving Grounds for 2017 and make it even bigger and better!

Net proceeds from Proving Grounds will support the operations of Enviros.

This includes critical needs of client support, staff training and development and capital improvements for our multiple facilities.

The Race

The premise is simple. Take the fun and laid-back atmosphere of your favorite mountain bike relay event; add in trail running as well as a challenge course; compact the distances to create a single loop ranging between 1 hour to 1.5 hour lap times; the end result is an 8 hour race, offering the best of everything in off-road multi-sport.


STAGE 1

Mount your steed and peddle the first leg of the course at a furious pace. Now is the time to put some distance between yourself and the pack.

Some terrain is better crossed on foot; cast aside your two wheeled companion and sprint through the forest.

Throw yourselves into our challenge course with abandon. These challenges will require all of your dexterity – or whatever you have left.

The race takes place at the Canmore Nordic Centre. You couldn’t ask for much better scenery for a race; the beautiful rocky mountains. But don’t let nature take your mind off the prize, you’re here to prove yourself after all.

Prove you have what it takes by competing as Fund Racer, Hard Core Racer or Core Racer

FUND RACER: You commit to a min. $250 fundraising goal to complete as many laps as you desire in 4 or 8 hours. Because you are supporting Enviros, you pay a lower registration fee: $40.

HARD CORE RACER: You are a true adventure racer who aims to complete as many laps as possible in 8 hours. Registration fee: $145.

CORE RACER: You have the body, heart and will to complete at least one lap and race for maximum 4 hours. Registration fee: $85.

You can compete in Proving Grounds as a Solo Racer or be part of Relay or Tandem team

SOLO RACER: Compete on their own at their own pace. (Must be 18 years or older).

TANDEM TEAM: Teams of 2 – 4 people must complete each lap and the Tandem Team must be together on the course at all times. Racers 14 to 18-year-old can compete in this category with their legal guardian as their teammate.

RELAY TEAM: Teams of 2 – 4 people compete similar to solo racers. Relay teams can break up the lap and assign different people to complete a specific discipline. Or, each team participant can complete a lap individually tagging off with the next team member at the end of the lap. Only one team member on the course at a time. All Relay Team members must be 18 years of age or older.

Since 1976, Enviros has been offering innovative, family oriented programming to Alberta’s most vulnerable children, youth, adults and families. Enviros has grown to become one of the region’s most flexible and adaptive agencies. The daily focus for the majority of our staff at Enviros, is surrounded with trauma, addictions, abuse and neglect. The unfortunate reality is that children, youth and families exposure to negative influences and behaviours have terrible consequences. Enviros currently operates 15 programs to address these consequences. The ultimate goal and focus of all our programs is to strengthen individuals, families and communities.
